WiseStart / WiseWomenCode

A program rövid leírása

One of our key programmes is WiseWomenCode. A unique experience that we launched in 2022, designed to bridge the gender gap in technology by providing support, guidance and opportunities to women and non-binary individuals who are eager to kickstart their careers in the tech world.

The objectives of the programme are to:

  1. Build confidence for the participants to apply to a technical role
  2. Create engagement with our programmes and the wider Wise community
  3. Build a future talent pipeline, with successful hires

The format of WiseWomenCode is a 3-day, in-person, immersive experience, packed with valuable insights, hands-on workshops and networking opportunities, all aimed at boosting confidence and helping participants to explore different engineering paths within the fintech industry.

At the end of the programme we ask participants to complete a technical test. If they pass this test they’re fast tracked to our final interview stage for the engineering internships.

Megszerezhető készségek és tudás a program során

All of our programmes are designed to enhance an individuals’ technical knowledge. We want them to feel empowered to take on new tasks that enhance their expertise.

We do this through various methods of in-person training, technical workshops and seminars. They get the opportunity to work on real-world problems from day one – fostering immediate practical experience.

Some of the skills they will learn are problem solving and design and testing.

In 2023, our interns worked on one of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities. We entrusted them with the creation of a new landing page highlighting Wise’s updated ESG strategy. They took on this responsibility, and the landing page continues to be used today.

A program célcsoportja

WiseWomenCode is targeted at those just starting their journey in tech. They may be studying in university, or taking part in a boot-camp as a career changer. They don’t need to apply with multiple years of experience and training. We understand that new things can be taught if the participant is curious and willing to learn.

This being said, we do have some non-negotiables – our participants and applicants must align with our 4 core values.

Are values are:
● No drama. Good karma.
● This isn’t just a job, we’re a revolution.
● Customers> Team> Ego.
● We get it done.

WiseStart hires people who are starting or restarting their career through internships, apprenticeships & graduate roles.

To reduce bias, all of our hires to our programmes are chosen by successful completion of technical testing and interviews with employees who have undertaken bespoke training.

We don’t expect candidates to be highly skilled for their interviews, especially if it’s their first time. Our interview panels are trained to assess for potential and support the candidate throughout the process.

Közép és hosszú távú karrier lehetőségek

At the end of the 3 days we provide the participants with the opportunity to take a technical test. If they pass, they’re fast tracked to the final stage of interviews for the intern programme.

Each programme is designed so that successful participants can create themselves a pathway to more advanced roles within Wise.

Once they secure a position as an intern at Wise, they have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills to various technical teams. This often leads to their successful placement in our graduate programme. Meaning, they can go back and finish the final year of their studies with the peace of mind that they have secured a career on the successful completion of their degree.

“The Wise intern programme has been fundamental in building a great talent pipeline for our engineering teams and we're consistently impressed by the value they bring. Some of our leaders today were interns and graduate hires 5-7 years ago.” - Harsh Sinha, Wise Chief Technology Officer

We split the programme into 3 days: ● On the first day, we hear inspiring stories from our women engineers to build an overview of what it is like working in tech at Wise. They get to partake in interactive workshops covering topics such as machine learning, security and coding challenges. ● On the second day, the participants get to spend a full day shadowing an engineer and gain first-hand experience of their daily work. Through this hands-on learning approach, they gain valuable insights into the practical aspects of the field and get a glimpse of the many projects underway at Wise. ● On the final day, we focus on their personal and professional development, especially building their confidence to apply for a role in tech. We focus on building their personal brand as a woman or non-binary individual in the tech space and supporting them to make informed decisions about their future career. Additionally, many of our previous graduate cohorts volunteer to mentor the attendees. This offers a unique chance for participants to hear personal stories about navigating our application process when applying for a role in tech, from those who have been in their shoes. Many of the participants stay in contact with their dedicated mentors after the programme has concluded. We encourage them to keep in touch with each other to provide support and advice regardless of where their career journeys take them.

A munkavégzés helyszíne, munkarendje

We offer all Wisers flexible working. Rather than focusing solely on the number of days you work in the office or at home, we’re focused on being intentional about how we work – using the most appropriate place for a given activity, and being mindful of the expectations of your role and your team. For new joiners, including interns and graduates, we expect they’ll be in the office most days to build connections and learn from colleagues. This is because in person collaboration is typically more impactful for activities that focus on learning. Most of our short-term programmes are in-person. However, we understand that not everyone has the means to travel to our office locations. For this, we offer various seminars and workshops online.

Salaries: We prioritise transparency in our job advertisements and, where possible, we clearly state salary ranges for the position. These ranges may vary depending on the specific role. To ensure competitiveness in the market, we benchmark salaries using data from external salary surveys, allowing us to remain informed about industry standards. We also have an RSU package that enables our Wisers to share in the company's success.

Benefits: Our organisation offers a flexible working model. Employees also enjoy vacation days, a pet friendly office, a paid 6 week sabbatical after 4 years, and extra personal days off known as "Me Days." Because we are such an international team, after six months we offer our ‘Mobile Wiser programme’. This allows you to work from (almost anywhere) in the world for up to 90 days a year. This gives people the flexibility to visit their family, or travel and experience living the way many of our customers do. We offer a minimum of 18 weeks (4 months in Estonia) of fully paid parental leave for birth or adoption, if a person has been at Wise for 1+ year at the due date or adoption date. This applies regardless of gender, or your partner’s parental leave policies.

Additional benefits in Hungary include:
● Cafeteria SZÉP Kártya tokens
● Monthly transport support
● Access to an on-site gym
● Private medical insurance

We host our global Mission Days, where Wisers connect around the globe, come together and foster relationships.

A program eredményessége

We measure the success of WiseWomenCode with 3 key:

Build confidence to apply for a technical position At the beginning of the programme we ask the participants to rate their confidence level on ‘how confident they feel in applying for a technical role’. We then ask them to answer the question again at the end. At the beginning, the NPS score was -38, and at the end the NPS score was 90. This is a significant improvement on building their confidence.

Build a talent pipeline for entry level technical roles at Wise Graduate Offers Post-Internship: 34 out of 41 interns received graduate offers. We had 4 interns in Budapest and 3 of them received an offer.
WiseWomenCode: We have made 10 hires globally from the programme so far. We successfully hired one person in Budapest for the internship role.

Create engagement with Wise and it’s communities We actively stay in touch with our previous cohorts of WiseWomenCode participants. We invite them to events we host and encourage them to join us for work experience days with our engineers. Our aim is to create a community of women and non-binary people that help and encourage each other long into their careers in tech.

Kampány vagy munkáltatói márka aktivitás célja

Our mission has always been an inclusive one: for everyone, everywhere, building money without borders.

As our lives become ever increasingly more global, as a company so must we. Generation Z cares deeply about being inclusive and diverse. We want to help transform the tech industry, by removing barriers for underrepresented communities by offering the WiseWomenCode programme and other opportunities similar to it.

We understand that a place of work should provide stability and continuous development in a world that is often uncertain and scary. Our goal is to cultivate a community where individuals support one another, offer mentorship, and provide valuable feedback - fostering connections that promote growth and create opportunities for all.

One of our core values is transparency. We encourage participants to provide us with feedback, so that each year we can learn and cater even better towards the needs of Gen Z. We understand that feedback is a 360 degree process. This is how we remain at the forefront of what we do. Building on relationships with the younger generations is crucial to our success.

A kampány időzítése és időtartama

WiseWomenCode takes place in the spring, to coincide with university holidays. We usually begin promoting this 2 months before, giving people enough time to apply and receive feedback.
